Tecomate® Lablab is the seed that STARTED IT ALL for Tecomate® Wildlife Systems. Highly nutritious, unsurpassed in its complete nutritional make up and a great source of antler-growing phosphorus. Extreme forage production and the highest protein of any in the plant industry make this the manager’s choice for growing big bucks. Vulnerable to heavy grazing the first 6 weeks. Plant additional acreage to compensate or protect with fencing. No other plant is proven to have such a dramatic impact on white-tailed deer!

THE ORIGINAL “MAGIC BEAN”

LABLAB was originally introduced to the United States from Australia by Dr. Gary Schwarz. Years of cooperative studies with the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute proved that Lablab could significantly increase the size of deer antlers and body mass while increasing the total carrying capacity of the land. Lablab consistently out performs all other annual legumes for the production of highly digestible summer protein. It is proven to perform under the harshest of growing conditions. Scientifically proven to add an unprecedented 20 to 40 inches of antler mass to mature bucks! These phenomenal results are due to the highly digestible protein (up to 38%) and ideal 2:1 Ca/P ratio. Lablab is a superior summer legume that is well adapted to the tropical and sub-tropical climates. Lablab food plot seed is extremely heat and drought tolerant and requires a soil temperature greater than 68 degrees Fahrenheit for quick growth. Lablab is not suitable for small unprotected plots. This is the phenomenon that started people talking about the bucks on the Tecomate Ranch. Ideal for zones 3 & 4.

LABLAB PLANTING SUGGESTIONS

  1. Plant in a sunny location that has been disked to a clean, level and firm seedbed.
  2. Tecomate recommends liming if the pH is below 5.8 and fertilizing with a phosphorous heavy fertilizer at the rate of 200 to 300 pounds per acre. Inoculating with Cowpea Inoculant will improve nitrogen fixation.
  3. No-till drill, cultivate and broadcast or cultivate and drill seed. Plant at a rate of 20 pounds per acre. When broadcasting, cover seed by dragging, cultipacking or lightly disking. Plant 1 to 2 inches deep in good moisture. Plant when ground temperature is above 68 degrees F.
  4. Lablab can be adversely affected by early grazing pressure during the first 3 to 4 weeks. This vulnerability can be overcome by planting enough acreage to disperse early pressure, by temporarily fencing off young plants or by using an effective deer deterrent. After 4 weeks, Lablab can withstand the heaviest grazing pressure.
