Riviera Bermuda Grass Seed is a bermuda turf grass seed that is the result of the intercrossing of three parental clone plants, producing a high quality turf that is moderately fine textured with a medium dark green color. Riviera bermuda has good resistance to Bermudagrass pests and sufficient cold hardiness to be used in parts of the US transition zone with minimal risk of winter kill.

Riviera Seeded Bermudagrass, Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers., is an improved variety that was developed by Oklahoma State University Turfgrass Development Team, with financial support from the United States Golf Association. Riviera Bermuda Grass Seed produces a superior turf quality bermuda grass with excellent winter hardiness. Riviera bermuda grass establishes fast from seed and has improved resistance to spring dead spot.Highest quality-rated Riviera bermuda grass ranks first overall for winter kill resistance, drought tolerance, color, green-up and percent of living ground cover in spring.

Uses For Riviera Bermuda Grass
Riviera bermuda grass is used for golf courses, sports fields, home lawns, commercial landscapes, ...anywhere a turf quality bermuda grass is used. The difference between Riviera bermuda grass and other bermuda grass varieties is that Riviera bermuda is significantly more cold tolerant. Sports fields and golf courses benefit from the excellent divot recovery rate of Riviera Bermuda Grass.

Areas Of Adaptation For Riviera Bermuda
Riviera Bermuda Grass is well adapted to the transition zone and all other regions where bermudagrass is currently grown. Riviera bermuda is an improved variety that has better cold tolerance and can be used in the transition zone. This transition zone includes portions of four of the five turf grass regions and extends through the central portion of the country from the Atlantic Coast to eastern New Mexico.

Bermudagrass grows well on a wide variety of soils from heavy clays to deep sands, provided fertility is not limited. It tolerates both acid and alkaline soil conditions and is highly tolerant to saline conditions. Bermudagrass survives some flooding but does best on well-drained sites. Riviera Bermuda Grass is an improved variety that is drought tolerant and will withstand colder temperatures. Although it may persist under low fertility, bermudagrass has a high nitrogen requirement for good quality turf. Applying 3 to 5 pounds of nitrogen per 1000 square feet (1.5 to 2.5 kg/100 square meters) per growing season is adequate.
Establishment of Riviera Bermuda Grass

Riviera should be planted in areas of full sunlight when soil temperatures reach a consistent 65F (18C) and are on the rise. Plant in a well-prepared firm seedbed. Maintain adequate soil moisture around seed using frequent, but light irrigation for optimum germination. Seedlings should emerge in 10 to 14 days. As seedlings develop, decrease the frequency of irrigation, but increase the amount of water applied. As turf matures, follow the recommended turf watering guidelines for your growing region.

  • Planting Rate: 2 to 3 pounds of RIVIERA seed per 1000 square feet (1 to 1.5 kg/100 square meters)
