Old-fashioned flower blooming in spring-early summer. Bears flat topped flower heads of small toothed or fringed carnation-type florets, often with a distinct crimson eye. There are reds, pinks, white, bi-color with flashes of white.
Culture: May be sown in outdoor seed bed to be transplanted, indorrs in a box, pot or pan and in a hot bed or cold frame. Sow thinly in good fine soil and thin out or transplant 9" apart. Often self-sows. Absence of mulch promotes self sowing. Perennial treated as a biennial.
